Research
Research Asisstant at Department of Astronomy, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
Working with Professor Tony Wong at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign to implementing robust Python script for gridding integral field spectra from FITS data cubes for the Local Volume Mapper(LVM) for Sloan Digital Sky Survey V (SDSS-V)
International Astronomical Youth Camp (IAYC 2023)
A 21-day academic astronomy summer camp in that gathered 60 young people(aged 16 to 24) from 30 different countries around the world to go on field trips and conduct research about Massive Star Formation.
Research: Solar Wind Influences on the Induced Magnetic Field of Mars: MAVEN Observations
Abstract:
Since ancient times, human beings have never stopped exploring outer space. As one of the eight planets, Mars has naturally become one of our key research objects. This paper mainly studies the characteristics and influencing factors of the Martian space environment. By using MAVEN's observation data for many years, we found that the intensity of the induced magnetic field is enhanced under the condition of high solar wind pressure, and this phenomenon is explained by the analysis method based on MHD equation.
Astronomy
Astrove Zhixing
- Organized eight large-scale astronomical observation activities of moon eclipse, planets, and meteorites for the whole school, attracting over 200 students, faculty members, and their families in total
- Lectured a fundamental astronomy knowledge open session and organized a workshop to discuss how we could view astronomy from a humanistic philosophical perspective
- Operated a WeChat official account – Astrove, which includes three major sections: Weekly Astronomical Forecasts, Popularization of Astronomical Knowledge, and Big Astronomical Event
- Initiated “Starry Sky Protection” program, giving a 10-minute speech to the whole school (~500 people) during the assembly to call on everyone to protect stars by reducing environmental pollution and light pollution
Zooniverse People-Powered Research Platform
- Contributed to projects in identifications & classifications of data:
- GWitch Hunter - identify the possible signal sources of the Gravitational Wave
- Star Notes - identify past notes written by women astronomers at Harvard University
- Galaxy Zoo - distinguish types/characteristics of galaxies
- Gravity Spy - determine the accuracy of Gravitational Wave Data
